A South African couple with an off-road caravan and a nice Toyota 4×4 are camping next to us. Their team is positioned facing away from us, which is why there is no immediate contact. Then at some point the question: “You, do they speak Swiss German over there?”
On occasion, we speak to them in Swiss dialect (Züridüütsch to be precise) – and promptly receive an answer in Swiss German (Züritüütsch of course!).
One year of work for a well-known Swiss company in Johannesburg turned into over 40 years! Edith and Paul have lived in South Africa for over 40 years, are retired and spend more time traveling than at home. We get on really well straight away and we never run out of things to talk about. Paul & Edith are also happy to share their personal travel experiences with us and provide us with travel documents. They are a few years older than us, but fresh, lively and full of life. They are an encouragement to us because we can see that you can still be alive after the age of 70.
