We have been traveling through Africa for 3 1\/2 years now.<br \/>\nSoon after New Year&#8217;s Eve \/ New Year&#8217;s Day we take the quickest route to Swakopmund. There we want to have some minor work done on the vehicle at Namib-Campers.<br \/>\nWe enjoy Swakopmund again. We are about to drive off, we are sitting in the driver&#8217;s cab and the engine is running. <strong>A small car with darkened windows pulls up next to us, a handsome black man jumps up to us and itches at our driver&#8217;s cab, holding onto the rearview mirror with his left hand and with his right hand he holds the muzzle of the barrel of his pistol to the side window, which is fortunately closed.<br \/>\n<\/strong>When I don&#8217;t open the door, he smashes the side window with three powerful blows from a pistol. He briefly loses his balance &#8211; I shift into second gear and step on the gas pedal, whereupon he jumps off in a huff and we dash through the sand back onto the track and into Swakopmund.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><div class=\"w-image align_none\"><a ref=\"magnificPopup\" href=\"https:\/\/onwheels.travel\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/Swakopmund-Desert-2786.jpg\" aria-label=\"Swakopmund Desert-2786\" class=\"w-image-h\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1420\" height=\"800\" src=\"https:\/\/onwheels.travel\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/Swakopmund-Desert-2786.jpg\" class=\"attachment-full size-full\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" srcset=\"https:\/\/onwheels.travel\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/Swakopmund-Desert-2786.jpg 1420w, https:\/\/onwheels.travel\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/Swakopmund-Desert-2786-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1420px) 100vw, 1420px\" \/><\/a><\/div><div class=\"w-separator size_small\"><\/div><div class=\"wpb_text_column\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\"><h1><strong><span style=\"color: #808080;\">After the raid <\/span><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/h1>\n<p>and the initial shock, we are both actually doing well. We drive to Windhoek and during the 300 kilometers I feel myself tense up every time a small car with darkened windows overtakes us or when I see a black person behaving strangely.<br \/>\nWhen we arrive at Camp Elisenheim in Swakopmund, our blood pressure suddenly skyrockets. Fortunately, there is a new doctor&#8217;s surgery and a chemist&#8217;s nearby. The doctor prescribes me a medication that stabilizes my circulation and blood pressure. For this reason, but also because of the incident, we decide NOT to ship to South America, but back home. And because our Namibia visa is expiring, we take another leisurely drive through the Namib Desert to Oranjemund. We soak up the addictive landscape for perhaps the last time, visit Duwisib Castle and enjoy the peace and quiet, as there are hardly any tourists on the road.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><div class=\"w-image We travel in short stages to Cape Town and on to Port Elizabeth &#8211; and finally to Durban. We stop at a few places that we would like to see again. However, our time budget remains limited due to the booking on our RoRo ship, which is scheduled to depart from Port Elizabeth around March 20.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><strong>West coast of South Africa<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>We take breaks in Port Nolloth and Lambertsbay to enjoy the fresh sea air. The peace and quiet is visibly good for us. Near Stellenbosch we visit the &#8220;Vergelegen&#8221; vineyard again, which enchants us every time &#8211; also with good food and friendly service.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Port beginning of February, we booked a ship passage for our MAN with departure on 9th April 2023 from Durban to Bremerhaven<\/strong>. However, the booking was never confirmed by the shipping company until we found out that this ship had been completely canceled.<\/p>\n<p><strong>We arrive in Port Elizabeth on March 15, 2023<\/strong>. A car carrier is scheduled to depart from here for Bremerhaven on March 20 &#8211; RoRo for roll on, roll off &#8211; and reach Bremerhaven in northern Germany a good three weeks later.<br \/>\nShortly afterwards we learn that the ship is already full and is therefore sailing past Port Elizabeth. Great.<\/p>\n<p><strong>We decide to drive on to Durban, as more car ships land in Durban and our chances are therefore greater.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><strong>East coast<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>This gives us the opportunity to visit the Drakensberg again, spend Easter there and meet up with friends again.<br \/>\nIn the days after Easter, we can
